About me
I am an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, Portugal, and former Associate Professor at the Natural History Museum of Denmark (SNM), University of Copenhagen. I am the Curator of Myriapods at the National Museum of Natural History and Science, University of Lisbon. I was born in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, and completed my BSc, MSc and PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Aveiro in Portugal, under the supervision of Prof. Fernando Gonçalves and Prof. Pedro Oromí (Universidad de La Laguna, Spain). I worked as a postdoc with Prof. Henrik Enghoff at the SNM. Currently, I lead the research group Subterranean Ecology at the Center for Ecology Evolution and Environmental Change (cE3c), focused on different aspects of ecology, evolution, physiology, and conservation, using mostly ecosystems from the shallow subterranean habitats to the deep subsurface biosphere and its relation with surface. I am also very interested in understanding parasite-host interactions, mostly linked with arthropod-fungi associations. Curating entomological collections, outreach and science communication is also an interesting part of my work.
